Molly Schmidt-Nowara

Born and raised in Albuquerque, Molly graduated magna cum laude from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2001. From 2001 to 2005, Molly worked in Washington, D.C., first serving as a law clerk to Judge A. Franklin Burgess at the District of Columbia Superior Court, and then as a trial attorney at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia. While at PDS, she represented clients in felony and juvenile delinquency matters from arraignment through numerous trials and post-conviction matters. In 2005, Molly returned to New Mexico as an Assistant Public Defender in the Santa Fe office of the Department of the Public Defender. While there, Molly represented hundreds of clients in serious felony matters from arraignment through trial and post-conviction issues. In 2007, Molly joined the Santa Fe office of Rothstein, Donatelli, Hughes, Dahlstrom, Schoenburg, & Bienvenu, LLP where she worked on both civil and criminal cases. Molly joined Freedman Boyd Hollander Goldberg Ives & Duncan, P.A. in October of 2008.
Molly has represented those accused of violent crimes (including homicide, sexual assault and child abuse), white-collar crimes, drug possession and drug trafficking, driving under the influence, unlawful possession of a deadly weapon, and domestic violence. She has also represented clients in criminal appeals. Molly has experience working on civil cases involving employment disputes, wrongful arrest, prison conditions, and wrongful death. Molly also represents clients in administrative hearings involving professional licensure matters and security clearances. She recently co-authored an amicus curiae brief to the United States Supreme Court on behalf of NACDL in Bullcoming v. New Mexico, a Confrontation Clause case.
